About the School

Welcome to Rod's Shim Myung Do.  We are pleased that you have stopped at our site.  Rod's Shim Myung Do is the oldest martial arts school in Miami, Florida's Kendall area, and now has locations in Homestead and Miami Beach.  It was founded in November of 1979 by Master Rod Bohorquez with the principles of teaching self defense, self control and personal development. We invite you to visit any of our schools to try a free class of your choice.

About the Master

Master Rod Bohorquez has been practicing martial arts for the past 34 years, 29 of which were in Miami (Kendall).  He has won numerous awards in and out of the United States.  Since 1985 he has made appearances in movies, talk shows, been interviewed in newspapers, magazines and TV news stations.  Master Rod has traveled giving seminars on Shim Myung Do (a combination of Tae Kwon Do, Hap Ki Do, Weapons and Meditation).  Now Master Rod spends most of his time educating his instructors and operating Rod's Shim Myung Do Martial Arts Family Centers in the Miami area and providing guidance to other Shim Myung Do schools located in New York, Connecticut, Mexico and Costa Rica.

Instructors

At R.I.M., our instructors are personally taught and selected, not only for their martial arts skill, but also for their ability to effectively communicate their knowledge.   All instructors are certified Black Belts from the Shim Myung Do Federation.   The instructors have also taken an instructors' course given by Master Rod on topics such as first aid, child psychology, business management and customer service.   Instructors are required to continue their education by attending special seminars in order to give better service.  This is why Rod's Shim Myung Do has been around for more than 25 years and is recognized as one of the finest schools in the world.

Programs that Fit Your Personal Needs

Rod's Shim Myung Do is interested not only in your self defense skills, but also in your complete personal development.  We take pride in our students' growth, physically and mentally.  Our instructors take seriously their responsibility as role models for younger students by teaching them the importance of strong character, leadership and good values.

2000 Years and Still Going Strong

For centuries, millions of people have benefited from the teachings of martial arts.   At R.I.M. we teach the fundamentals of the martial arts by combining the time-tested Eastern philosophy of martial arts with the modern approach of Western teaching philosophy.  You will understand what it takes to defend yourself or loved ones when needed.
